About CPC

Incubated as an alternative to the plethora of CIO off site programs or merely networking dinners, CIO Productivity Conclave today stands for its originality, business content and research-led approach. As one of the finest CIO conferences in India, CPC brings together IT, business, consulting and academic angles to create a wholesome learning for its delegates. Organised across the key Indian cities, it offers technology and business executives a perfect platform to interact, learn, share and gain insights into technology and winning business strategies.

What makes CPC Stand Out?

CPC, through its powerful and original content, focuses on real world scenarios and deals with the real challenges faces by CIOs. It is uniquely positioned to offer solutions to the CIOs through its research-based discoveries and consulting.

Each year the participants of CPC get access to a relevant, leading-edge content addressing their challenges and offering inputs helpful in rising in the role of a business CIO. This year’s theme, distinct from the past two years, will focus on creating the winning strategies using platforms.

The keynotes, CXO debates, sessions by technology experts, academicians and researchers are way ahead of what competitive forums offer.

The convenient business conference format of CPC allows the delegates to join the proceedings without compromising work, family and personal time.

Who attends CPC?

Since its inception CPC has only seen an incline in its followership and attendance. While in 2014 if we got close to 220 odd CIOs, in 2015 this number went up to 260. In 2016, our aim is to not only better this figure but also create more extensions of this popular engagement.

CIOs, business technologists, strategists, marketers with a technology bent of mind, and other CXOs from both private and public sector enterprises from mid-to-large enterprises are the best suited profiles to join the Conclave in 2016.

About Platforms

Definition: Platform is a “collection of individual planks (pieces)” which is able to quickly and easily scale, morph and incorporate new features, users, customers, vendors, and partners and also incorporate third–party collaboration aimed at achieving business excellence across the entire enterprise spectrum.”

“CIOs have long recognized the power of platform approaches to information and technology architecture. What’s different now is that new digital opportunities and evolving threats, including new commercial and ethical challenges, reveal that platform dynamics need to penetrate all aspects of the business.” Gartner in Building the Digital Platform: Insights from the 2016 Gartner CIO Agenda Report

“In last few years, a new phenomenon called a “Platform” has emerged rapidly as more and more companies recognize they can leverage the applications they have developed as strategic assets. Simply, a platform is anything a company can use to differentiate itself from its competitors and distinguish itself in the marketplace.” Forrester

“One of the best and recent examples of a Strategic Platform is the Salesforce’s Customer Experience Platform. CIOs and their teams can now easily create and brand Customer Experience Platform for most of their client facing and internal applications set in their portfolio.” Capgemini

Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google have done nothing less than usher in a new era of doing business. While writing and doing research for The Age of the Platform, it became evident to me that the platform wasn’t just some different take on technology. It was an entirely new business model being embraced by thousands of organizations in many industries and of all sizes. It’s not just about four companies.” By Phil Simon, Author of the Book: “The Age of the Platform: How Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google Have Redefined Business”

Research Topic: Platform Thinking – the New Engine of Competitive Strategy

The future of an enterprise competitive strategy now lies in its platform. The term platform is metamorphosing into a much broader definition as compared to a merely technology-oriented definition. Built upon a strong enterprise digital platform, the platform definition is now subsuming organizational capabilities and their leverage in strategic terms. The real question business leaders need to address is:

- How does the enterprise digital platform create capabilities and how these capabilities serve as options, which can be leveraged in market contexts?

It is clearly evident that the relevance of the new definition of platform is not restricted to technology alone but encompasses the functions and business.

Digital leadership is about CEOs, CIOs and other CXOs working together.
Enterprises are increasingly embracing digital. Core Quadrant research shows that the percentage of enterprises citing digital as one of the top two IT priorities has increased three folds from 19% in 2014 to 60% in 2016. While much of it is still flirting in nature, deeper integration of digital with the core applications and infrastructure layers is on the cards. A huge play of middleware to connect these two different worlds of digital and core IT has already begun and will only become bigger with time.

The shift from a monolithic, on premise, closed, stability-oriented, developed on traditional methods to a flexible, hybrid, open, change oriented, developed on agile methods is driven by the growing complexity of the context in which IT operates.

The growth of devices, users and applications is leading to explosion in data volume, velocity and variety. The complexity is further fuelled by infinite combination of devices, users, data, and applications driven by the digital technologies. IT leaders are dealing with the paradox of ‘security and efficiency’ with ‘agility, speed and insights’. Enterprises need to build a digital platform - an integrated mash up of digital, core and catalyst technology layers.

The real questions are: How do they undertake this transformation? And How do they make it business relevant?

It is time to define the blue print for their future business platform and start building it.

This research shall develop perspectives around the above important questions and enable enterprises to become competitively more relevant.

This research will take the shape of a book titled Platforms – the New Engine of Competitive Strategy.

The book, apart from carrying the detailed research findings, will provide a unique opportunity for the vendors to communicate their approach to enabling enterprises build their respective platforms.
