Is IT Respected? No, Not Really!

The sorry tale of the treatment meted out to a CIO in his organization got me thinking: "Why, indeed, CIOs get so little respect?" Pardon me for putting this so bluntly but I am not the only one who feels like this. How much are CIOs to blame for this? Is it resistance to change or the uneasiness to relent control?

When I thought of desktop virtualization, the economics just didn't work out. If I couldn't justify ROI to myself, how could I convince the management? While there are tangible benefits of virtualization, its high cost is a limiting factor and lowers the return on investment (ROI).
